Whatever your choice of accommodation when you get there: be it Italy Villas or a hotel in Croatia, there are certain countries in the Mediterranean region that continue to attract many millions of visitors to their shores each and every year.
The most popular for British tourists would have to be Spain, closely followed by Italy, France and Greece. These destinations really do guarantee a much more equitable climate than we are accustomed to in the UK and the resorts have been purpose-built and offer everything a tourist could ever possibly need.
Portugal is another very popular country, but has a shorter coastline that the other countries already listed above - the same could be said of countries such as Malta and Cyprus.
We should not forget the fact that a number of North African counties have a coastline on the Mediterranean, but due to current unsettled political matters, this is definitely tending to put people off at the moment - meaning that more and more people are choosing the safer European options at the moment.
Of course, competition between the tourist countries in the Mediterranean region is very fierce. Some countries, where their tourist industry has been relatively quiet over the past couple of decades, are now starting to fight back against the giants in the area and this will mean that there is far more choice for the tourist in the future. Two great examples of what I mean here are Croatia and even The Lebanon.
